SMJ’s yo ho. - staged reading w/ the Latinx Playwright’s Circle

Carolina stars in this queer pirate love story as Anne Bonney!

Synopsis:
Aboard Calico Jack’s pirate ship, Andy & Mark are drawn to each other through mutual attraction, shared trauma, and a love of games. They meet in a closet to hook up, but discover that they have been hiding a dangerous secret: they’re actually... Anne & Mary. This revelation forces them to carry on a genderqueer love story in the shadows As they are chased and haunted by a myriad of men, Anne & Mary must become their truest selves before their inevitable capture.

The Latinx Playwright’s Circle’s Intensive Mentorship program gives four playwrights the space and support to develop a full-length play while being partnered with a mentor to help guide the process. Participants of this program will be partnered with one of our mentors, who this year are: Marco Antonio Rodriguez, Cusi Cram, CQ, and Ricardo Perez Gonzalez. Over the course of the intensive, there will be three private table reads as well as a public industry reading as a capstone to the program’s goal of introducing artists and their work to theaters across New York City.
